About the Author

I have never smoked nor do I ever intend to smoke. However, I have been exposed to the effects of smoking most of my life. I lost my mom recently to cigarettes. She was my best friend. I miss her apiece day. If you don’t want to leave someone missing you, then visit http://www.squidoo.com/effect-of-smoking and learn how to quit smoking and stay around to watch your loved ones grow up.

I have some friends and family that smoke and I wanted to find out what chemicals they were putting in their bodies with apiece cigarette, apiece day.  Not to mention all the other effects of smoking.  So, I decided to do a tiny research.  I was dumbfounded.  The general agreement is about 599 additives.

The huge problem is that these additives were not tested by burning them.  The burning of most of these additives changes the chemical compounds.  It produces over 4,000 chemical compounds, of which many are toxic and/or carcinogenic.  Not to mention the smoke you inhale, which contains carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen cyanide, and ammonia.  43 known carcinogens are in the smoke you breathe and share with others.

Chemicals found in cigarette smoke

Benzene – A petrol additive.  A colorless hydrocarbon obtained from coal and petroleum, used as a solvent in fuel and in chemical manufacture. ( Also found in cigarette smoke).  It is a carcinogen and is associated with leukemia.

Formaldehyde – embalming fluid.  A colorless liquid, highly poisonous, used to preserve dead bodies. (Also found in cigarette smoke.  Known to cause cancer, respiratory, skin and gastrointestinal problems.

Ammoniatoilet cleaner.  Found in dry cleaning fluids.  It is used as a flavoring frees nicotine from tobacco turning it into a gas.  (Also found in cigarette smoke).

AcetoneNail polish remover.  Fragrant volatile liquid ketone, used as a solvent.  (Also found in cigarette smoke).

Tar – Particulate matter drawn into the lungs when you inhale on a lit cigarette.  Once inhaled, smoke condenses and about 70% of the tar in the smoke is deposited in the smoker’s lungs.

Nicotine Insecticide, an addictive drug.  One of the most addictive substances known to man, a powerful and fast acting medical and non-medical poison.  This is the chemical which causes addiction.

Carbon Monoxide (CO)car exhaust fumes.  An odorless, tasteless, and poisonous gas, rapidly fatal in massive amounts.  It is the same gas that comes out of the automobile exhausts and is the main gas in cigarette smoke, formed when the cigarette is lit.

Arsenic rat poison. (Also found in cigarette smoke).

Hydrogen CyanideGas chamber poison.  (Also found in cigarette smoke)

Now, you can comprehend why secondhand smoke is so dangerous.  You are poisoning yourself by choice, but others around you; family, children, the elderly, and friends don’t have a choice.

Take the time to read the list below.  This is what one cigarette puts into your body apiece time you take a puff.  Think about it!  Quit!!

This daring docu-drama explores the esoteric underground of hard-cider brewing. This fast paced thriller is sure to captivate the mind, and leave you on the edge of your seat. OK, it’s just a video I shot with a 3mp Cannon digital camera on video mode and edited with some lousy free software. You’ll notice the audio is pretty poor, and sometimes doesn’t sync, sorry. The cider was pressed October 15, and bottled December 8th, 2007. I fermented using 2 different styles -5 gallons of fresh cider with a starting specific gravity of 12. I pitched it with White Labs liquid English Cider Yeast. This should yield around 7%. -5 gallons of fresh cider. I added corn sugar until specific gravity was raised from 12 to 16.5. I then pitched Red Star champagne yeast. This should produce around 10% I primed apiece bottle with a tiny corn sugar. This should carbonate the contents and produce a nice sparkling cider. It is best consumed chilled, and in massive quantities. Thanks for looking, Andy
