Oral thrush is an infection caused by over-populated of yeast fungus in mouth. Oral thrush can be caused by various reasons. Sometimes, the oral yeast infection is triggered by taking antibiotics, diabetic problem or being passed down from the mom to babies.

Symptoms of oral thrush will show white or yellow spots at the inner cheeks of the mouth and tongue. These spots are usually painless, but when you try to scrap the spots, it might cause some slight bleeding.  If the oral thrush is on babies, it can spread easily to other parts of the body, especially the diaper area because when they are drinking milk, the infection can pass down from the tract to anus area, causing redness and soreness.

Most over the counters treatments or prescribed drugs will be an antifungal gel or cream like nystatin and diflucan. It requires patients to apply inside mouth to get rid of the symptoms. However, when yeast patients are not reacting well with such treatments, the yeast infection will turn tougher to treat because the yeast had become more resistant to medications like these.

There are cases where yeast patients have to suffer from yeast infection for months and some even up to years. It was all because they can't find a right treatment to cure their yeast infection.  Good news is home remedies for oral thrush have proven to be effective, simple and innocuous for most people.

You can learn to treat oral thrush at home, but there are some golden rules to follow. It is important to have good oral hygiene such as apiece time after meals, you should brush and floss your teeth. Do not use mouthwash as it is one of major causes in oral yeast infection. If you wear dentures, please do not wear to sleep and disinfect it each night.

In order to treat your thrush effectively, it is best that you start to consume healthily now. A good diet will absolutely give you a stronger body to combat yeast infection quickly. Cut down on your sugar so that yeast has lower chance of staying alive to thrive. Eat more probiotic food such as plain yogurt. It is great for promoting active cultures that is needed to attack yeast.

You can treat your oral thrush naturally at home, so make sure you know the right home remedies to help you. With the right treatment given, you should be ready to get rid of yeast infection completely within a week!

Question: Baby has oral thrush.. bloody useless doctor.. help?
A health visitor told me yesterday that my 13 day old baby has oral thrush, and she prefabricated me a doctor’s appointment to get some treatment. She told me to explain that I’m breastfeeding, so I’ll need treatment as well so I’m not passing the thrush back on to my daughter when she feeds.

The physician I saw wouldn’t give me any treatment until I told him what the HV said. He eventually prescribed me a Hydrocortisone cream to apply to my nipples, but he stated to only use it if Jessica’s thrush doesn’t clear up after a week. The prescription for the cream states apply twice a day from day one! I don’t know which one to do!

He also prescribed my daughter Nystatin, and told me when and how often to give her it, but when I’ve looked at the prescription he gave me, it’s got a different dosage from the one he said. Furthermore, when I’ve looked at the instructions for the medicine, they state that the usual dosage, the one I’ve been told to give her, is too high for newborns and they should get a lower one!

I have no theory what to do, I don’t know if I should just do what my physician told me, do what his prescription says, or follow the instructions in the medicine. I can’t get another doctor’s appointment until next Tuesday and I don’t want to move that long to treat my daughter in case it’s hurting her mouth. What should I do? :(
Forgot to mention, the cream I’ve got states “follow your doctor’s instructions carefully if you are pregnant or breastfeeding”
I didn’t get any instructions!!

I’d try phoning the surgery to talk to a doctor. If you can’t get a hold of a doctor, i’d go into a pharmacy and talk to a pharmacist, they’ll be able to give you advice about it too.
