How can I tell if I have a yeast infection and how can I treat it if I do?

Question: How can I tell if I have a yeast infection and how can I treat it if I do?
I’ve been itchy down there for a few days now and my discharge is thicker and whiter than usual and smells different. It doesn’t seem very severe (it doesn’t itch a whole lot and nothing’s red or anything), so I really don’t think it’s bad enough to warrant going to the doctor, and I’d rather not purchase the special treatments for it if I’m not sure if it is a yeast infection or not. Are there any home treatments that would help if it is a yeast infection but not injured if it isn’t?

yeah sounds like you do have one… usually it will be itchy and irritated and have a weird smell.. in some cases the discharge will be like cottage cheese or just like really thick like flem… you can go to the drug store or grocery store.. or even walmart or target and pick up monostat.. you will see it where all the feminine hygeine is… its a easy 3 day treatment. if it doesnt go away after that or gets worse i would see a gyno.

The Monostat treatments are actually safe to use even if you dont have yeast.

The drug store sells test-kits that can tell you if you have yeast or not.

The danger of NOT going to the doctor is that Yeast, Urinary Tract Infection and Bacterial Vagnosis all have similar symptoms – but different treatments. Treating for one may leave the real problem un-treated.

    (Sigh)

Home treatment: Get a container of plain yogurt, a plastic spoon and a tampon and a magazine. Take all to the bathroom with you. Smear the tampon with yogurt and insert it. Then smear another spoonful around the outer skin of your vagina. Wipe your hands and sit there reading the magazine for 10-15 minutes. Then remove the tampon and shower.

Other advice: wear a liner and change it 2-3 times per day. Change underwear and do extra careful washing them. Trim the hairs and pay extra attention to drying the area after a shower. (Hair blower on low after a shower is recommended.) Sleep w/o underwear to let air circulate down there. (Boy Boxer shorts are a popular alternative to panties because the loose leg lets air circulate.

The Monostat stuff – has cooling and anti-itch medicine included which offers relief sooner. It also does not need refrigeration.

Yeast infections aren’t that easy to permanently get rid of. Many products can temporarily relieve the symptoms, but a long term treatment approach will be your best bet to completely elliminate it.

One of the more popular and effective homeopathic solutions is yeastrol. It’s very effective at treating vaginal, penile and oral yeast infections.

What you can also do to speed your recovery is to change you diet in a way that will starve the yeast organisms (Candida).

Things that you should remove from your diet are all sodas, sugars, fruit, fermented foods, foods containing white flour,
alcohol (especially beer), antacids and any product that has yeast or mold.

Things to add to your diet are live yogurt cultures (or take Acidophilus), plenty of water, fresh vegetables, lots of protein rich foods, whey protein, raw garlic, nuts, seeds, oils, millet, rice and oat brans

Another thing to keep in mind is that both you and your partner should consider the diet change/yeastrol treatment as you can be passing the infection back and forth between you.

Hope this helps and best of luck! :)

Hey I understand what you mean.
Monistat didn’t work for me.. my doctor prescribed me meds and it made even worst!
Despite when it manage to heal, the yeast infection will come back again (means it’s not fully cured).
I realized the only real cure for Yeast infection is doing the natural way so it won’t come back again!

Try using natural yogurt. Eat it, it helps to restore the balance of bacteria in your system, but also dip a tampon in it (couple times a day) and insert into the vagina and then remove tampon. Spread a little yogurt around the outside area of the vagina as well. This will help relieve the itching, as well as treat the infection. If not better in a few days, see a doctor.
