How come males become gynecologists/obs?

Question: How come males become gynecologists/obs?
I was just wondering why males become gynecologists/obstetricians. Other than perversion, why would a male want to study the female’s private organs all day? Just curious :)

Why would anyone become a podiatrist? Staring at feet all day is nasty…people probably have many different reasons for wanting to be a gyn, and I bet perversion is not on “normal” people’s lists.

They choose their lives. It isn’t perverse. It is an art of medicine. I think it is quite childish of you to think this way and also it is only a few. Not even that many. If you feel like it is a perv then tell someone.

One of the midwives in the midwife group I see is male. He truly loves children, possibly more than the female midwives in the group. His office is covered in pictures of his children, memorabilia from his children’s schools and sports… and he has a huge bulletin board covered in pics of newborns that he has delivered. There is nothing sexual or perverted about it.

Do you know that the main thing OBs and gynos and midwives see when asked to do an internal exam? Women who come in with a UTI or a yeast infection or an STD… there is nothing sexual about examining some stinky mucus under a microscope to diagnose your patients infection… or seeing a woman dilate and give birth… ugh, thats a bloody mess. Other than a yearly check up the main time your doctor sees you undressed is when you have a problem. Eww.

It isn’t a sexual thing. It is being a doctor and helping others.

I’ve heard male OB/GYN on tv say when they were in medical school and helped being a baby into the world that they knew then and there that was what they wanted to do the rest of their lives.

I’ve only seen one male OB/GYN & he was the head doctor over the midwives. He was wonderful & so sweet. I helped me through one of my miscarriages then again when I feared losing another baby.

My sister also sees a male OB/GYN. She didn’t want to at first but he when she got into the group he was the only one there at the time. She says he is great and kept seeing him after the birth of her child.

My OB/GYN is a woman and her husband is also an OB/GYN. They are in the same group.

I’m a nurse and my boss is a male OB/GYN. He’s no perv. Theres nothing sexual looking at nasty infections in vaginas. That’s the only reason he ever sees vagina unless its the yearly exam. He only does GYN since he loves doing OB. He loves getting to help bring babies into this world. He’s currently my OB. I normally have a different OB/GYN(who is a female by chance) but as soon as I found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted someone I know and trust, and that truly cares about their job.
    He’s amazing!
