  1. Reality Check, Please! says:

    Try some of the following:

Are you using oral contraceptives? A diaphragm? If yes to either, consider changing BC methods.

Eat yogurt with a high active yeast culture content. Also avoid foods with excessively high sugar content.

Wear looser fitting clothing. Tight pants, panty hose, etc don’t allow the body to breathe properly and hold moisture in.

Wear only cotton underpants and do NOT wear thongs. Satin, silk, rayon, nylon etc are too tightly woven to allow proper air passage. Also, sleeping without underwear can help as well.

Avoid taking antibiotics when at all possible.

Wash the external area several times every day with antibacterial soap.

DO NOT DOUCHE!!!!!!!!!! This washes away the beneficial bacteria in your vagina and creates an imbalance with the natural flora & fauna.

Urinate and wash yourself as soon after sex as possible.

Try switching to tampons. Do not wear panty liners unless absolutely necessary and then only for very limited periods of time.

Don’t use feminine sprays except on your underpants – never spray them directly onto your body.

Avoid excessively hot baths – showers (especially DURING the infection) are the best.

You definetly have my sympathy b/c I’ve had the same problem. For six months now I have had chronic yeast infections. I’ve tried everything from otc medicine like Monistat to prescription pills like Diflucan. Nothing works. I just read about ‘vaginal boric acid’ which I’m going to try next….don’t know if it works…but anything is worth a shot at this point right?

Go to your doctor and have them check that out. Yeast infections that often are not normal…. it may be candida and needs treatment. I use to get them about every three months. And my grandmother told me she heard you should put a cup of vinegar in the bath tub.. so I tried that and would do that once or twice a week and for some reason it really did help!

I recommend all natural Optiflora. It’s a two-product system that includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus…microflora) + Prebiotic (FOS…food source for microflora). Guaranteed delivery of 500 million microflora to intestines. Also, the Prebiotic destroys overgrowth of yeast.

Garlic Complex also destroys the overgrowth of yeast.

Zinc, Vita-C and NutriFeron: builds and strengthens immune system.

Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions or if interested in the website where the Optiflora is available.

I agree entirely with Reality Check and Just Me. It is less an issue of the actual offending bacteria as it naturally grows in your intestines. Candida Albicans will become predominant only when the conditions in which it thrives are present and the right conditions for “friendly bacteria” are absent. Vaginal pH (potential for hydrogen) seems to be the main constituent that is needed to throw off the friendly/unfriendly bacteria ratio.

I am still mystified by the acidic/alkaline science. You read one place that alkalizing kills bacteria and another place that acidifying kills bacteria. I’m begining to think that there is more to this. I know there are different types of acids and that, for example, lemons are acidic but are converted by your body to be alkalyzing.

Two things to consider for nutrition are Spirulina and Chlorella. If you are interest, it costs about 15 per pound of either and, that’s quite a small price for the highly useable forms of nutrients they contain. That’s enough for about 6 months or so for one person. I’ve been taking them for a while now and they are amazing. I’ve never felt better, to be honest. These are micro algae are so packed full of vitamins, minerals and macronutrients that you would need only about 2 teaspoons a day to get all the nutrition you need. It is not so well known that these refined foods we eat are killing us and have very little or no nutritional value whatsoever. Most people think they are doomed to be fat forever, this is not true. They think that they have to starve themselves. This is counter productive…

Your body tells you to eat more and more in an effort to obtain the nutrition it desires but does not get. So we are only packing ourselves full of chemical ridden nutritionless foods!! We were not designed to assimilate such things.
