Question: What’s the difference between Chlamydia and Thrush?
Hi there, what’s the difference between Chlamydia and Thrush? I tested positive for chlamydia recently and just wondered, could it just be thrush? Or are they completely different things?

They are very different organisms. Chlamydia are tiny, simple, bacteria-like organisms that are only capable is reproducing intracellularly. They are spread by very close contact, often sexually.

Thrust is an oral infection with a yeast, usually Candida. Candida are frequently part of the body’s flora, but are normally suppressed. Weaknesses in resistence including diabetes or immunosuppression can grant the yeast to blossom and become troublesome.

Drugs to control them are entirely different. Sometimes antibacterial drugs, including drugs to treat chlamydia can suppress normal bacterial flora, allowing Candida to blossom.

Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by a by a tiny bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis.

Thrush is a yeast infection caused by a fungus called Candida albicans. The fungus candida albicans occurs naturally in your body, particularly in warm, moist areas. It does not usually cause problems because it is kept under control by your immune system
